Swing Joint – Central Type

Swing Joint

MAXWELL Swing Joints have been used with great acceptance by the petroleum industry for many years.  Their design permits liquids to pass through in a single unbroken stream, thus avoiding the aeration, agitation, and pressure loss which results when the flow is broken up into several streams.

The MAXWELL Type “UC” Swing Joint consists of two cast semi-steel elbows (stationary and swing) held together with a heavy steel tie rod under spring tension.  In addition, an expanding monel gasket between the shoulders provides a lasting seal.

The assembly is designed in such a manner that the spring exerts a predetermined pressure that permits the swing elbow to turn easily on the wide-shouldered bearing surface of the stationary elbow without binding, sagging or separation.

The 150 lb. ASA flanged stationary elbow mounts directly to the tank nozzle and, consequently, the weight and thrust of the swing pipe is distributed over the tank shell.  No additional brackets or supports are required with the MAXWELL Type “UC” Swing Joint.

Please consult our factory for the availability of these swing joints in non-standard materials of construction.
